The Motorola MOCOM 10 Low-Band Base Station was one of Motorola’s “first” transistorized base stations, and a popular unit for smaller services on a budget. Often used as the base station for EMS when EMS was dispatched by another agency such as a law enforcement agency that employed a “full time” dispatcher. Also used as a hospital base station in rural area’s where there was generally only one hospital in the area for receiving ambulance reports.

I remember when I served with the federalies in Mexico we had this base station in low band on 37 MHz. It was good for about 20 miles at 5 watts out with a folded dipole ground plane base a station. We had the mobile version in the cars and they worked for many years lasting well into the 90's

When I was 16 (1978) I volunteered at the Saddle Ridge Horseback Riding Area in Bergen County New Jersey. The County owned and administered the stables and it was designated a County Park. The trail ride went into the woods for many miles and each leader was issued a Motorola Handicom MH-10 portable. At the office there was a Mocom 10 Base on 39.98, a Bergen County Park frequency. The riding area office was on top of a mountain in northern NJ and we could hear units from Long Island, NY since the radios operated in carrier squelch. The audio was amazing from these radios and it was reliable. I have always liked Lowband and with Narrowbanding on VHF & UHF Lowband is becoming more popular!
